Paris describes time in jail

A subdued Paris Hilton admits she found being locked in a prison cell a "traumatic experience," and something she never expected. But it was good for her, she says.

"I've been through a lot," the celebrity party girl told CNN's Larry King.

"And it was a pretty traumatic experience, something that I really have grown from."

Nicole Richie has been dodging rumors that she’s expecting a child with her boyfriend of six months, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden.

But in the new issue of Nylon magazine, every other topic is decidedly on limits as Richie, 25, opens up about her celebrity status, her drug past and whether she’s a role model.

“I don’t have a clue why I’m famous,” Richie tells the magazine, blaming the media for her omnipresence. “I didn’t make myself famous…You’re doing it. I think people just want to say, ‘Oh, she doesn’t have a job she doesn’t do anything.’ They get off on that. But I do have a job, like everyone else.”

In 2003, Richie entered rehab following a heroin-possession arrest. “When I pictured heroin, I pictured some crazy crackhead with no shoes under a bridge,” she says in the interview. “You never think that is going to be you. And it never was me. I was never under a bridge, and I always had shoes.”

Despite a “chaotic” childhood in which she says her parents gave her too much freedom, Richie does not regret past mistakes. As for setting an example for the one million fans that tune into The Simple Life every week, “I don’t walk around pretending that I’m perfect, so I don’t think anyone should hold me to that,” she says. “The dangerous thing is that there are 16 -, 17 -, 18 –year-olds that people consider to be role models. I’m so happy I wasn’t famous back then…You’d think I was the f—king devil.”

Kate & Pete to wed

Libertines and Babyshambles singer and songwriter Pete Doherty has declared that he will marry Kate Moss this northern summer as soon as he is "smack and needle-free".

The star, who has long battled heroin and cocaine addiction, made the revelation in his diaries, recently published in a UK broadsheet newspaper.

The diaries give a glimpse at the wild life the singer has led since he burst into the spotlight as co-frontman of the Libertines, a band that channeled the energy of the Jam with the spirit of the Clash, and the words of Dylan.

He says, in the midst of a rehab stint earlier in 2007 that "smack and needle-free we shall marry in the summer and I become 10 times happier than any given smackhead. Huzzah!"

Rambling and occasionally incoherent, Doherty nevertheless expresses the joy in his heart for his bride-to-be, but also tells of their tempestuous relationship which involves much fighting and arguing.

He tells of a fight on the Paris-to-London train in July 2005 that led to a physical confrontation between the rock star and the waif model, resulting in Pete bleeding. Many of their confrontations are sparked by Doherty's drug dependency, and also claims that Moss booted him out of their home together in the UK after a holiday stint in Thailand - it was initially believed that the couple married there in the New Year holiday between 2006 and 2007.

The diaries also feature an entry written by Moss, in which she tells Doherty: "You have touched my heart and soul... You make me high, my sweet, my skin shivers and longs to be held by you."

Trial postponed

Reality TV star Nicole Richie on Tuesday won a more than two-week postponement of her trial on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, but the judge in the case said he would grant no more delays.

Superior Court Commissioner Steven Lubell set a new trial date of July 11 for Richie, who was arrested in December after allegedly driving the wrong way on a busy Los Angeles freeway.

Lubell, who pushed back the trial date from June 25 at the request of Richie's lawyers, said he would not put it off again.

Richie, the 25-year-old daughter of singer Lionel Richie who co-stars with best friend Paris Hilton in The Simple Life, was not in court for the brief hearing in Los Angeles.

"She has two options: Either she goes to trial or she changes her 'not guilty' plea," said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

If convicted, Richie faces a minimum punishment of 90 days in jail because she has a prior conviction for driving under the influence, Robison said.

Police say that when they questioned Richie at the time of her arrest she failed a sobriety test and admitted that she had smoked marijuana and taken the painkiller Vicodin.

Although her black sports utility vehicle was pointed in the right direction when officers found her, it matched the description of a car that had been seen entering the freeway against traffic.

Hilton, 26, was sentenced to 45 days in jail for violating her probation in a drunken driving case. She is expected to serve 23 days with standard credit for good behavior behind bars.

She sparked a worldwide press frenzy when she was briefly released for what authorities said were medical reasons.

Robison said sensational news coverage around Hilton's jail term was not a factor in Richie's case.

"For us it's taken on a case-by-case basis," she said.

"That's a different office, different jurisdiction. It has nothing to do with this case."

TMZ was in court moments ago when Nicole Richie's lawyer announced her client will try and beat the rap. A trial date was set for July 11.

Richie was arrested last December after she was driving the wrong way on an L.A. freeway. Cops say she confessed that she had been smoking pot and had taken Vicodin.

The stakes are high for Richie. She has a prior DUI and if she's convicted this time around she faces a minimum 5 days in the pokey. Worst case scenario for Richie -- one year in the slammer.

More trouble for Paris

Paris Hilton is expected to be released from jail a week from today, but the heiress is not going to be receiving a warm reception from her Hollywood Hills neighbors.

Two of The Simple Life star's neighbours - led by Christopher Hauck and Anne Goursaud - are sick and tired of having her live nearby and everything that entails - constant paparazzi waiting outside, house parties and those annoying helicopters that kept hovering that one day she was sent back to jail.

Now, Christopher and Anne are trying to mobilize their other neighbours, emailing their city councilman and considering hiring a lawyer.

"The party was cancelled officially over two weeks ago. We were confused why PURE was even still promoting it," Lohan's rep tells Us Weekly. "But Lindsay will not be having the birthday party at PURE and is focusing on her recovery 100 percent."

In exchange for cancelling on them, Lohan - who already had been paid by the club - agreed to make a future appearance at PURE.

Pregnant? More rumours sparked

Nicole Richie has been keeping mum about speculation that she is carrying boyfriend Joel Madden’s baby, but now a source close to the Simple Life star has revealed that the rumours are true.

The friend claims that Nicole is hoping being in the family way will come in handy in helping her escape a jail sentence over DUI charges.

“Nicole is kind of hoping her pregnancy will keep her out of jail,” the source tells Page Six.

Friends are reportedly concerned over Nicole’s ability to carry a baby to term because of her weight issues.

The pregnancy rumours were sparked after Nicole was pictured looking a little fuller in the tummy, although some had put the bulge down to bloating caused by malnutrition.

On Thursday, Adam, 27, was also spotted at the Wiltern Theatre and shopping for sneakers. The scruffy actor then returned home to take out the trash. Adam finished off his day reading a script for his next acting role while licking away at an ice cream cone.

Adam was spotted getting cozy with Hostel II actress Lauren German last week at the Tower Grove Villa in Beverly Hills.

Forbes' Annual List

Forbes’ annual list of the top 100 celebrity power players is out, and, not surprisingly, constant top-10 star Oprah Winfrey is No. 1 with earnings of $260 million a year.

But the Forbes list of most powerful celebrities, which considers income along with other factors such as media interest and the number of friends on stars’ MySpace pages, doesn’t bode well for today’s starlets and celebutantes.

Jail resident Paris Hilton and jailbound Nicole Richie fell off the 2007 list, thanks to declining interest in ‘The Simple Life’ and do-nothing albums. So did Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who had been moving up the list from 2002 to 2006. So much for their tween cache.

Rehab queen Lindsay Lohan already had fallen off in ‘06, after two years. And Britney Spears, who ranked No. 1 in 2002, fell off the following year and hasn’t returned.

Meet Magdalena, our current obsession and the next major sensation (in our opinion anyway). Maybe it’s the shape of her eyes or her chameleon-like qualities on film, but there’s something about her that’s both familiar and haunting. Perhaps it’s because she’s reminiscent of a young, pillow-cheeked version of Kate Moss?

The future looks bright for this lovely, 19-year-old Polish model, as she made a big impression during the Fall 07 shows. She walked for many of the most important designers (Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Valentino, Versace, Viktor & Rolf, Pucci, Ralph Lauren, Behnaz, and Zac Posen), and closed the Loewe show. She’s also turning up in the right places print-wise as well. Magdalena’s on the cover of this month’s Flair (the amazing French magazine) and the most recent issue of V Magazine called her one of the top 10 models for the fall season. Coupled with recent turns in the pages of Bazaar, W, as well as Italian, French, Chinese, and, most recently, German Vogue, it’s clear that Magda’s on the important radars.

Conceivably the impetus for Magdalena’s ascent is her above-mentioned versatility. How else could one explain two of her upcoming ( and diverse) fall campaigns? Whatever the reason, we’re looking forward to seeing her advertorial work with Ralph Lauren and Dior Lingerie and her face on newsstands everywhere.

Olsen twins turn 21

Take a look back at the most successful twins in Hollywood, who will turn 21 — the legal drinking age in the US — at the stroke of midnight tonight.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have come a long way since their child star days. Their fashion businesses and movie roles have made them both billionaires, who rank among the most powerful women in Hollywood.



They rocketed to fame at the age of nine months, with both sisters taking turns playing the same character on the popular sitcom Full House.



But becoming known as the cutest kids on TV was only the beginning of the Olsen twins' magic carpet ride to Hollywood fortune.



Shortly after Full House ended, the young businesswomen began merchandising their image — creating a brand called Dualstar that would sell clothes and accessories to over 5,300 stores worldwide.

The girls continued their acting careers while the money came rolling in through their fashion business. They have starred in more than 15 films and several TV shows together.

But the pressures of fame soon took a toll on the twins, with Mary-Kate forced to check into rehab in 2004 because she was suffering from anorexia. Her publicist denied rumours that she was also receiving treatment for drug use, saying: "Mary-Kate was not admitted for drugs. Period."



Ashley has also been the subject of a drug scandal. She sued the National Enquirer for running a story which seemed to imply she used drugs, a claim her lawyers said was fabricated. The gossip magazine was later forced to apologise to Ashley for the defamation.



Despite the controversy, the Olsen twins have continued to become more and more successful — releasing new, mature clothing lines and earning a spot on the Forbes celebrity 100.

The girls have also been awarded a Hollywood star for their extensive acting careers. They are the only twins to ever receive the honour.



On June 13 this year the Olsen twins will turn 21, making their transformation into adults complete. Get ready, Vegas!
