Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have come a long way since their child star days. Their fashion businesses and movie roles have made them both billionaires, who rank among the most powerful women in Hollywood.
They rocketed to fame at the age of nine months, with both sisters taking turns playing the same character on the popular sitcom Full House.
But becoming known as the cutest kids on TV was only the beginning of the Olsen twins' magic carpet ride to Hollywood fortune.
Shortly after Full House ended, the young businesswomen began merchandising their image — creating a brand called Dualstar that would sell clothes and accessories to over 5,300 stores worldwide.
The girls continued their acting careers while the money came rolling in through their fashion business. They have starred in more than 15 films and several TV shows together.
But the pressures of fame soon took a toll on the twins, with Mary-Kate forced to check into rehab in 2004 because she was suffering from anorexia. Her publicist denied rumours that she was also receiving treatment for drug use, saying: "Mary-Kate was not admitted for drugs. Period."
Ashley has also been the subject of a drug scandal. She sued the National Enquirer for running a story which seemed to imply she used drugs, a claim her lawyers said was fabricated. The gossip magazine was later forced to apologise to Ashley for the defamation.
Despite the controversy, the Olsen twins have continued to become more and more successful — releasing new, mature clothing lines and earning a spot on the Forbes celebrity 100.
The girls have also been awarded a Hollywood star for their extensive acting careers. They are the only twins to ever receive the honour.
On June 13 this year the Olsen twins will turn 21, making their transformation into adults complete. Get ready, Vegas!
