Drug-addled Doherty makes new rehab attempt

Pete Doherty has checked himself back into rehab, finishing off a spectacular week of alleged attacks, side-stepped prison sentences and a cocaine kitty.

The Babyshambles front man has checked into Clouds Day, a $730-per-day clinic near Salisbury, two-and-a-half hours southwest of London.

The 28-year-old's latest attempt to dry-out follows an alleged attack against a photographer at a shopping centre.

Cath Mead claims Doherty kicked her and smashed her camera while she was photographing a model.

"A woman in her 20s has claimed she was assaulted by a man in the George Shopping centre at 3pm," a police spokesperson said this week.

"She wasn't seriously injured but it's believed damage was caused to the victim's camera. The incident is being investigated."

Doherty was arrested on Monday after he was allegedly found carrying drugs after performing at a music festival.

The singer subsequently walked free after police failed to bring him before a court for breaching his bail conditions within 24 hours.

Cocaine was detected in the bloodstream of a kitten belonging to drug-addled rocker Pete Doherty, reports said.

During his new rehab stint, Doherty will be able to flex his vocal chords by joining in the clinic's Friday night sing-a-long with a band called Mustard Seed, who put "recovery lyrics to popular music," according to the centre's site.

He'll also undertake "therapeutic duties" which consist of vacuuming the lounge and setting the table for dinner at the 38-bed-facility.

Britain's Daily Star reported that a kitten belonging to Doherty fell ill recently and was taken to a veterinary clinic.

The vet reportedly detected cocaine in kitten's bloodstream and had to call in the RSPCA, which subsequently reported the incident to the police.

The kitten was one of five recently born to Doherty's adult cat Dinger, who was named after a junkie slang term for a syringe, the report said.
