Cocaine has been detected in the bloodstream of a kitten belonging to drug-addled rocker Pete Doherty, reports say.

Britain's Daily Star reported that a kitten belonging to Doherty fell ill recently and was taken to a veterinary clinic.

The vet reportedly detected cocaine in kitten's bloodstream and had to call in the RSPCA, which subsequently reported the incident to the police.

The kitten was one of five recently born to Doherty's adult cat Dinger, who was named after a junkie slang term for a syringe, the report said.

The paper quoted an RSPCA spokeswoman who would not confirm or deny the identity of a man who had his kitten removed.

Doherty, 28, was arrested on Monday after he was allegedly found carrying drugs after performing at a music festival.

The Babyshambles singer subsequently walked free after police failed to bring him before a court for breaching his bail conditions within 24 hours.
